Red Spider Lilies

Autumn is also the time of this wonderful flowers in Japan: The red spider lilies. Obviously, I took a lot of pictures of them, since they do not grow in Spain, as far as I know. I had always considered them really beautiful, but I did not know anything about them when I photographed them. I did not know they are poisonous, nor that they are offered in funerals, much like other kinds of lilies in other parts of the world, and are often seen in graveyards. Their name in Japanese means Flowers of the Autumn Equinox, and they are also called flowers of the dead. You can easily guess they have an ominous image about them. Actually, spider lilies were brought (like many, many other things,) from China to Japan, but the Japanese only brought with them the female flowers. Therefore, they can only be grown from bulbs by gardeners, and they do not grow by themselves in the nature.

En otoño también florecen estas maravillosas flores en Japón: Las flores del infierno (Lycoris radiata). Como no podía ser de otra forma, hice muchas fotos de flores del infierno en Japón, ya que no crecen en España, creo. Siempre me habían parecido muy bonitas, pero no sabía nada sobre ellas cuando les hice esta foto. No sabía ni que son venenosas, ni que suelen ofrecerse en los altares durante funerales, como otras especies de lirios en otras partes del mundo, y suelen verse en los cementerios. Su nombre en japonés quiere decir literalmente "flor del equinoccio de otoño", y se las suele conocer también como flores de los muertos. Ya os podéis imaginar que no tienen una imagen muy halagüeña asociada dentro del imaginario japonés. En realidad, los japoneses trajeron estas flores desde China, pero tomando sólo las flores hembra, por lo que sólo pueden ser cultivadas a través de bulbos, y no crecen de forma espontánea en la naturaleza (por lo menos en Japón).

秋といえば彼岸花ですね（紅葉以外）。美しくスペインには無くお花ですから、沢山の写真を撮りましたが、その時、私はまだ彼岸花について何もわかりませんでした。その後、彼岸花について調べて、色々を学びました。例えば、彼岸花は有毒で、お葬式の時や墓地でよく見かけるし、昔は中国から日本へ持って行かれました。しかし、雌花しか持って行かれなかったので、日本で自然で育てられません。綺麗なお花ですが、不吉なオーラがありますね。
